A: From the front page, http://www.itrackmine.com/, click on the "Sign Up" link in the upper middle of the page, and follow the easy instructions.
Q: Why do I want to add my items to my collection?
A: Putting items into your collection allows you to use the Site to track your collection. This way you can avoid buying the same item twice, remember who you lent items to, allow friends to shop for you, etc.

A: Every item detail page has an error report icon ( ) in the top-right. Please click this to send us an error report about that item. We'll fix it asap!
Q: What do I do if I see an inappropriate picture or there is abusive text entered by someone onto the site?
A: Click on the "Contact Us" link on the bottom right corner of the main page. On "Inquiry Type" select "Report Abuse". Please be specific in the message in directing us to where the abuse can be found.
Q: I just made a new account and there are all these friends and items I didn't add. What's going on?
A: Each new account automtically gets two new friends (the co-founders Dave and Dean), and one item. We found that giving new users a bit to work with, can sometimes help familiarize new users to all the wonderful things iTrackmine can do.
Many people immediately remove the friends and item and this is perfectly OK.

Privacy (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: Will my personal information be released to anyone?
A: No. iTrackmine will not release any individual identifying information, not even email address, to external parties. Friend connections you make inside iTrackmine are completely under your control.
Q: When I mouseover my avatar I can see the value of my collection. Can everyone see this?
A: No. You are the only person who can see this amount.
Q: How do I prevent people from seeing my collection?
A: Go to the "Settings" page. To the right of the screen there is a drop down menu next to the phrase "Who Can See My Collection". You can also hide any individual item within your collection (see "Collection Privacy" below).
Q: Can anyone add me as their friend? What if I don't want them to?
A: Anyone can send you a request to be their friend. Once you receive a request, you can either approve, decline, or ignore. Ignore makes it so you never see any future requests from that person. Once someone sends you a request however, the option for them to send you another one is removed. You can remove people in your ignore list from the "Settings" page. But you must approve them for them to be your friend. Once you approve them, you both become friends of one another.

Q: What do the icons mean on the item information page?
A: These images are also used throughout the site. They are displayed on the item detail page, or in the toolbox when browsing items (click the green wrench icon ( ) next to the item):
- The Pencil (
) is for "Edit Information". From here you can enter the price you paid, leave a note, as well as enter other information about the item.
- The Gray Scroll (
) is for "Add Item to Custom List." When it is a Yellow Scroll ( ), that item is already in at least one Custom List.
- The Star (
) allows you to "Add Item to Wish List."
- The Wrapped Box (
) is for "Add Item to Gift List."
- The Green Circle with the White "S" (
) is for "Suggest". You can use this to suggest that a friend checks out the item.
- The Green Circle with the White Exclamation Point (
) is loaning or borrowing an item.
This changes to a Blue Circle with the White Exclamation Point ( ) when the item has been loaned out to you.
This changes to a Red Exclamation Point ( ) when the item is out on loan to someone other than you.
This changes to a Gray Circle with a White Exclamation Point ( ) if you have already sent a request.
- The Open Blue Eye (
) allows you to hide the item. The Closed Blue Eye ( - signifying the item is currently hidden) reveals the item.
- The Yellow "$" (
) allows you to sell the item at Amazon.com.
- The Red X (
) is for "Remove from Collection". This will delete the item from your collection.
Q: How do I review an item?
A: Select the item that you wish to review. In the upper right of the item page, there is a "Write Review". Once you have written your review, be sure to click the "Save" button beneath the review field. You can only write reviews for items you own that are publicly visible (see "Collection Privacy" below for details on visibility).
Q: Can I add personal notes, or an image, to an item?
A: You can add a personal note to an item in your collection by browsing for that item, clicking on it, and selecting "Edit Information". Images are added on the same page by clicking the small red "[manage image]" link in the center of the page.
Q: What is the Personal ID with an item?
A: You can add your own ID with each item in your collection by browsing for that item, clicking on it, and selecting "Edit Information". The Personal ID can be used to store your own personal cataloging ID - such as a bin or box number.
Q: What is a Collection Graph?
A: The Collection Graph is a visual breakdown of items in your collection. The number of items are displayed in bar graphs by rating and by category.
Q: I'd like to export or print my collection. How do I do this?
A: To export all your items, click the "MY PAGE" link and then the "Export Collection" link in the center of the page.
To print a coffee table listing of your collection with images, click "MY PAGE" then "My Collection" (in the sub-navigation) to view your collection. From that page, click the "With These Results..." link and then the "Print Results" link.
More sophisticated exports and printouts can be generated by using the filters (under "Show Filters..." on that page) and then clicking the "With These Results...", and finally, choosing to either "Print Results" or
"Export Results". Creating Custom Lists or filters (under "My Filters...") can make it especially easy to quickly generate exports (to eBay or CSV) and printouts since when you're viewing a Custom List or filter, the system will automatically
use those results in the export or printout.
Q: How do I suggest that a friend looks at an item?
A: Browse for the item and select it. Beneath the picture of the item, click on the "Suggest" button ( ). This will bring up a page with a field for leaving a note for why you are suggesting the item. You can select which iTrackmine friends by clicking in the box next to their names, or you can send emails to friends by filling out the email fields to the right of the screen.
Q: When I mouse-over an item it tells me I'd like that item but I know I won't. Why is it saying this?
A: The best way to change what it says is is to add, and rate, more items in your collection. The more complete your collection, the more accurate this notification, as well as, recommendations (on the "Wants & Needs" and "Shop For" pages) and Like You Scores, will be!
Finding Items (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: How do I get my items into my collection?
A: You can add items to your collection in a variety of ways. Click on the "ADD ITEM TO YOUR COLLECTION" tab at the top of the page. From here you can add items by title, UPC, or ISBN. You can even use a bar scanner such as a CueCat, to read the bar code on the back of the item, and it will usually input the UPC, or ISBN, for you. To the right side of the screen you can also import items from other databases.
Q: How do I use a bar code scanner?
A: iTrackmine works with any bar code scanner you can plug into your computer. We suggest using the CueCat because it is very inexpensive (about $10) and easy to use.
First make sure it is properly installed on your computer, then from the "ADD ITEM TO YOUR COLLECTION" tab, simply scan the item's bar code and the system will automatically look for that code.
Q: Sometimes when I correctly enter the UPC code the Site is unable to find a matching record.
A: Try entering the ISBN number instead. Occasionally, especially with books, when an item is discontinued or out of print the UPC number will cease to be listed in any database we can draw from, whereas the ISBN number lasts forever.
Q: I'm doing a search by item title but the Site is unable to find my item.
A: A couple tips for searching by title:
- Check nuance. "Ironman" (a sports watch) vs. "Iron Man" (the movie) - "SpiderMan" and "Spider-Man" (comics).
- Check spelling. "Casino Royal" vs. "Casino Royale"
- Specify the item type (movie, book, electronics, etc). Eg: search Iron Man, with Movie selected.
- Try searching for part of the title. Eg: I'm searching for the "Mini-Orchard" toy by Haba, but cannot find it by entering Mini-Orchard so I enter Orchard Haba.
Q: The site isn't finding my item from the UPC scan and I don't see an ISBN number.
A: Check to make sure that it's the real UPC you're looking at, and that the store hasn't stuck their price tag and bar code directly over the real UPC and ISBN. Some international or club UPCs may not be found.
Q: I have an older book that doesn't have an ISBN number. What do I do?
A: Please try searching for the title or author of the item. Or, you may optionally create a Custom Item (from the "ADD ITEM TO YOUR COLLECTION" panel).
Q: On some of my books, there are two bar codes, with a second set of numbers above the second bar. It seems like the Site is unable to find matching records for these.
A: Try entering the ISBN number above the first bar manually.
Q: Sometimes barcodes on my books do not scan. What do I do?
A: Some books will have a second barcode on the inside of the cover. If the one on the outside does not work, try the inner one instead.
Q: How do I figure out what a UPC code is on an item that I own?
A: The UPC code is the number that is at the bottom of the bar code on the item. The ISBN number is at the top.
Q: I can't get my barcode scanner to work. Help!
A: Unfortunately we can't help you set up your barcode scanner if you have one. But, if you are sure it is working properly, make sure that the cursor on the website is in the "Add UPC, ISBN, Title" section of the panel. Try going over the barcode several times with the scanner, some of them require a few tries to get them working. If that doesn't work, try the scanner on another item, some items have stickers that might not read properly with your scanner.
Q: I've tried everything but still cannot find my item. What do I do?
A: You can add your item as a Custom Item. Click the "ADD ITEM TO YOUR COLLECTION" tab and then "NEW ITEM" under the "Create Custom Item" section. A new window will open where you can enter your item information and upload a picture. Your item will immediately be added to your collection. Soon thereafter, we will review your item. If it's data is complete, we may add it to our database of items and send you an alert so you know it's been converted.
Q: Is there any way that I can sort without the "The", "A", or "An"'s at the beginning of item titles?
A: Click the "Settings" link (top-right). On that page, there is a "Use the alternate sort method?" option. If you set this to "Yes", the system will then ignore any "The", "A", or "An"'s at the beginning of an item's title when you sort!
Importing Items (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: How do I import?
A: First, click the "ADD ITEM TO YOUR COLLECTION" tab. Then, on the right side of the panel are buttons for importing from various sources. Click the source you would like to import from. Follow the instructions on the import page.
Q: It imported the wrong item from my iTunes list. What can I do?
A: iTrackmine uses advanced algorithms to try and determine which songs go with which CD's, records, or cassettes, but can sometimes guess wrong -- especially with very old or custom music
("aunt Dory's wedding music" by "uncle Bob" probably won't be found). We recognize this. So with any item added to your collection from an import, you have the option of keeping it or
swapping it out.
After the import, click the "MY PAGE" then "My Collection" (in the sub-navigation) links to view your collection. Each item imported will have two new icons in the
toolbox (click the green wrench icon ( ) next to the item): "Keep" ( )
and "Swap" ( ). Click the "Keep" icon to leave the item in your collection as-is. Click the "Swap" to have iTrackmine
search for other music with the same album title and artist. If found, click the Green Plus to swap the old item with your new choice.
Sometimes this "Swap" search is too narrow
because it uses the album + artist, if this is the case, you may use the search page (click "Find Items" in the navigation) to find a better match.
Additionally, if iTrackmine cannot find any match at all,
you will see a new link "Manage Imports" in the center of your "MY PAGE" page. This page will list those items so you can find them manually, or add them as Custom Items.
Q: It imported the wrong item from my import list. What can I do?
A: With any item added to your collection from an import, you have the option of keeping it or swapping it out. After the import, click the "MY PAGE" then "My Collection" (in the sub-navigation) links to
view your collection. Each item imported will have two new icons in the toolbox (click the green wrench icon ( ) next to the item):
"Keep" ( ) and "Swap" ( ). Click the "Keep" icon to leave the item in your collection as-is.
Click the "Swap" to have iTrackmine search for
other items with the same album title and artist for music, or just title for other items. If found, click the Green Plus to swap
the old item with your new choice.
Sometimes this "Swap" search is too narrow because it uses the album + artist (for music) or an exact title match (all other item types),
if this is the case, you may use the search page (click "Find Items" in the navigation) to find a better match.
In addition, if iTrackmine cannot find any match
at all, you will see a new link "Manage Imports" in the center of your "MY PAGE". This page will list those items so you can find them manually, or add them as Custom Items.
Q: Advanced File Import
A: As the title suggests, this is for advanced users, but it gives you more control over what you import. Look at the Advanced File Import pages for detailed instructions on how to create your import file. When you create your import file, remember that the more meta information you include, the more accurate the match. For example, if you import movies, try and include as many entries in the format column as possible: DVD, VHS, Blu-ray, etc. This helps the system know specifically what you're looking for.
Custom Items (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: What are Custom Items?
A: Custom Items are items you create an add to your collection manually. You should only need to create a Custom Item is you were unable to find the item within our system (see the section above on finding items).
We encourage our users to create custom items if they need to. Please don't hesitate to! But, we work hard to ensure that our system contains most items so you do not have to enter items manually.
Q: What rules are associated with Custom Items?
A:
Before creating a custom item, please make sure we do not already have it in our system (see the section above on finding items).
- Once created, you (and only you) can edit all its data from the item detail page (in case you make a mistake).
- We may convert your item to a global iTrackmine item if it was truly missing, and correct.
-
- You keep converted items in your collection.
- You won't lose any personal item information when it is converted.
- You will no longer be able to edit global data from converted items (personal data is still editable).
- If you enter a UPC or ISBN it must be valid. If the system complains, add it as a "Manufacturer ID".
Receipts (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: How do I add my receipts?
A: Go to any of your items detail page and click the receipt icon ( ) to bring up the receipt window.
The receipt window lets you manage all your receipts. You can assign the item you are currently looking at to an existing receipt, or upload a new receipt for the item.
You can upload JPG, JPEG, GIF, PNG, DOC, DOCX, HTML, TXT, RTF, and PDF files. Each file can be a maximum of 3 megabytes. Images will be resized to a maximum of 1,000 pixels wide.
All your existing receipts are listed along the bottom of the receipt window. This lets you associated multiple items with the same receipt.
In addition to being able to upload your receipt, you can also specify the store it came from, the receipt date (versus the date when you uploaded it), the tax, shipping and total all of which is optional.
If you specify a store, any items associated with the receipt will be updated with that store. As well as if you enter the receipt date all associated items "acquire date" will be updated to that too.
Q: Can I download my saved receipts?
A: Yes! From your MY PAGE, click the "Export Collection" link (bottom of the top-center area), and then click the "Export Receipts" link in the left navigation on the export page.
This will immediately create a downloadable CSV (comma-delimited) file for you to download and open in Excel (or your favorite program). Meanwhile, in the background, the system will begin to generate
a ZIP compressed file of all your receipt files for you to download. Depending on how many receipt files you have uploaded, this can take some time, but when it is finished, we will send you an email with a special link in it to download your ZIP file.
The ZIP file will remain on our server for 24 hours. You will have to be logged in to download it.
Q: My receipts all have the same file name.
A: If you upload two files with identical names, we will rename the second one with a unique prefix.
Q: Can anyone else see my receipts?
A: No! No one else can see if you have uploaded a receipt, or associated a receipt with an item. We also encrypt all receipts you upload, as well as the generated ZIP file when you export your saved receipts.
Collection Privacy (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: Who exactly can see an item when it's hidden?
A: Just you. There is no place on the site can anyone see that you own a hidden item, nor can they infer it [see next question].
Q: If someone has just me as their friend, and I rate a hidden item, won't they be able to figure out that I own that item because their "Friend" rating will have a number?
A: No because we remove hidden items from both Friend and Trusted rating calculations.
Q: What if you add item to your collection, review it, then make it hidden...what happens to the review?
A: Since it does not make sense to keep your review public, we remove the review and copy it into your personal notes for that item - and retain any personal notes you may have already had.
Q: Can you lend hidden items?
A: Yes. You can initiate a loan and manage your loans as normal, but no one can request to borrow (since they cannot see that it is yours).
Q: How does this mesh with my collection privacy settings?
A: There are two levels of privacy within iTrackmine: 1) collection-wide, and 2) item-by-item. Item-by-item always takes precedence. So if you set your collection-wide privacy that only your Sci-Fi friends can see your collection, but you mark your Westerns as "hidden", not even your Sci-Fi friends will know about your secret love of Westerns.
Q: When do my notes, or the image I uploaded, show up on an item?
A: Personal notes, images, and ID's only appear for you and friends who can see the item.
Wants & Needs (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: What is the "Wants & Needs" area?
A: This is a place to see, and manage, everything you want. It has two main parts:
-
Things you might want
Here is a list of items you might want. We generate this list based on your current iTrackmine collection profile. The more complete your collection, the better the recommended items.
Each recommended item can be added to your collection ( ), added to your Wish List ( ), or removed ( ).
Your friends see this list when they look at you in their "Shop For" page.
-
Your Wish List
A Wish List is a catalog of items you or your friends would like to own. Using this helps your friends shop for you.
Both can be accessed via your mobile device.
Q: How do I add items to my Wish List?
A: Browse for the item in the iTrackmine database, searching with the "Entire Site" box marked. Then click on the "Wish" button, the one in the shape of a star ( ).
Q: My friend isn't a member of iTrackmine, can they reserve items on my Wish List?
A: No. Encourage your friends to join. Signing up is easy!
Q: How do I say I bought an item for a friend on their Wish List?
A: Click on your friend's profile and select "Shop For [name]" (under their profile image on the left side). On the "Shop For" page, their Wish List items are shown in the middle column. Click the "[ reserve ]" link with the item you bought for them.
Q: How do I prevent certain people from seeing my Wish Lists?
A: Click the "Wants & Needs" tab in the top navigation to go to that page. Once there, click the red "View Your Wish List" button. From there, you can specify who can view your Wish List.
Custom Lists (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: What are Custom Lists?
A: Custom Lists allow you to organize your items into "sub collections". For example: you could create a Custom List called "Harry Potter", and put all the "Harry Potter" movies and books into that list.
Q: How do I add items to my Custom Lists?
A: You can add items to Custom Lists several ways:
- in the "ADD ITEM TO YOUR COLLECTION" sliding panel. Select a Custom List, and all items added via that panel will automatically go into that Custom List.
- by clicking the "Tools" button next to any item you have in your collection
- by clicking the Gray or Yellow Scroll on an item detail page (Yellow denotes an item already within at least one Custom List)
- from the Custom List management page go to the list you want to add to and click the "Add Items to this List" link
- by adding in bulk from any search of your collection. To add in bulk, search your collection for items to add to your Custom List and click the "With These Results..." link. This will expand a new area that will allow you to add all the items within that search result to your Custom Lists. This is a great way to create "All my DVD's" or "All my Harry Potter" lists. And, keep them up to date the system will not add the same item to a Custom List more than once, even if it is in the current search results.
Loan & Borrow (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: How do loans work?
A: Loans are very simple. Browse your collection for the item you are going to lend. Press the "Lend" button and iTrackmine will allow you to loan that item to a friend. You can also assign a due date for the item's return.
Q: How do I loan something to someone that is not an iTrackmine user?
A: Browse your collection for the item you wish to loan and click the green "Lend" button. Within the popup that opens, you have the option of loaning that item to any of your iTrackmine friends, or typing in the name of a friend not within the iTrackmine system.
Q: How can I borrow an item from a friend?
A: Select an item in your friend's list. Find the "Borrow" button (it's a green circle with a white exclamation point). Press the "Borrow" button and iTrackmine will message your friend with your request.
Q: How do I tell a friend that the item I loaned to them is due back?
A: In the old days the best way to do this was to write a note, wrap it around a brick, and throw the brick through your friend's window. With iTrackmine you can use the website to track the item and message your friend when it is due. Click the "Loan & Borrow" button in the top of the screen, or the red "Manage" button associated with the item. Click on the "Manage Loan" button. Click on the "Send Reminder" link and enter a short message. iTrackmine will remind your friend that they need to return the item.
Collection Report (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: What is a property loss report?
A: A property loss report is a list of items in your collection. You can use this list to help negotiate with your insurance company if your insured property is lost, stolen, or damaged.
Q: How do I use a property loss report with insurance agency?
A: Click on the "Collection Report" button. Beneath the words "Property Loss Report", click on the link for "Export as CSV". (This will likely take awhile depending on the size of your collection.) When this has completed, press the "Click to Download" button. This can be opened with a spreadsheet program and you can print from there. You can send the spreadsheet to your insurance agent.
Friends & Trusted (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: What is a Trusted Reviewer?
A: A "Trusted Reviewer" (or just "Trusted") is anyone you think has good taste, or trust their judgement about items, and would like to seperate them out from the rest of the people at iTrackmine.
You are the only one who knows who your Trusted Reviewers are, and you can add people as "Friends" but not Trusted Reviewers if you like them, but do not subscribe to their taste in items.
You can make anyone within the site a Trusted Reviewer of yours.
Several places within iTrackmine display the number of times a person has been added as a Trusted Reviewer. This number may help you decide if that person has good, unbiased, reviews.
Q: Will my friends feel bad if I do not make them Trusted?
A: Not unless you tell them. You are the only person who knows which of your friends (or members - people who are not your Friend can be Trusted) you have made Trusted.
Q: I'd like to keep up on my friends Wish List, is there a way I can be notified when they make changes to it?
A: Click on your friend's profile and select "Shop For [name]" under their profile image on the left side. On the "Shop For" page, their Wish List items are shown in the middle column. Click the blue envelope ( ) to enable alerts. Click it again to disable the alerts.
Q: How can I tell if a friend owns an item?
A: Click on the "Friends" link in the top navigation and select your friend. From your friends page you can view their whole collection. When you are on an item information page, text in the top-right of the page will tell you the number of people and Friends that own that item. You can click the text links to see which Friends.
Like You Scores (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: What is a Like You Score?
A: After analyzing yours and another persons profile, the system comes up with a human-readable "score" of how similar (or different) you two are. The score is from 0 to 100.
When you mouse-over a persons profile image, the user info popup will sometimes show several scores broken down by item type. This way you can see how similar they are compared to you by item type (movie, music, book, etc).
The more complete your collection, the more accurate the Like You Score will be. This score also helps generate recommendations for you and your friends on the "Wants & Needs" and "Shop For" pages. So you'll want to make sure it's as accurate as possible especially for the "Shop For" page where your family and friends will be looking for gift suggestions for you!
Q: Why is my overall Like You Score so low with someone whose music (movies, etc) Like You Score is really high?
A: The overall Like You Score is not an average of the item type scores.
Think of it like this: Your friend Bob has 500 CD's and no movies. You have 500 CD's and 500 movies. So both of your music Like You Scores might be in the high 80's but your overall Like You Score might be less than 50. This is because, taking both your and Bob's collection into consideration as a whole, it looks like Bob does not like movies at all, but you do. Therefore, overall, you are dissimlar. To improve the accuracy, ask Bob to add and rate his movies.
Q: I've added several items to my collection, and rated some too, but my Like You Score and recommendations haven't changed. Why not?
A: Adding or rating more items increases the likelihood of triggering an update. Even if you're not updated immediately, we remember that you made changes and check throughout the day to see if we need to run an update.

Q: How do I find new friends?
A: You can either click on the "Friends" link in the top navigation, and select "Find New".
Or, click the "Find Similar?" link. This page displays a list of the "most similar to you" people within the system. Mouse-over a users image to see a breakdown of their Like You Score [see the previous section about Like You Scores].
Q: How can I know if someone is a good reviewer or not before I add them as a Trusted reviewer?
A: If you click on the "Reviews" tab it lists current reviews and reviewers. You can see how many people have that reviewer as their trusted by moving the mouse cursor over a reviewer's name. Additionally you may want to click on a reviewer's name to find other reviews he or she has written to see if they agree with your tastes. Next to their name with each review they have written (on the item information page) is a [+] that you can click on to see their full rating and review history.
Shop For (show all)Click the questions below to see their answer.
Q: What is the Shop For area?
A: This is where you can see, and manage, what your friends want, and what you want to get your friends.
This information is all accessible via your mobile device.
Q: What is a Gift List?
A: A Gift List is your "to do" list of things to get for others. It's a reminder of what items you have flagged for purchasing for your friends. You can also add to it, and refer to it, from your mobile device. This is different from the mobile Shopping List [see the Mobile section below].
Q: What are these columns on the Gift List management page?
A: To the right of your list of friends are three columns:
- items you've already added to that friends Gift List
- items from that friends visible Wish Lists
- recommended items for your friend. These recommendations are updated as your friends add and rate items in their collections. fyi: the items you see in your friends recommendations are the same as what they see recommended to them in their "Wants & Needs" page they can remove items if they don't like them. You can do the same with your Wants & Needs [see the Wants & Needs section for more info].

Q: What can I do with the iTrackmine Mobile Assistant?
A: A complete list of mobile functionality is shown on the Mobile Tutorial page. From this tutorial page you can also run through the whole mobile system from your home to get used to it's interface before heading out to the store.
Q: How do I log in using my iPhone, Android or mobile device?
A: To use iTrackmine on the iPhone, Android or Mobile Safari, connect to the Internet and go to: http://app.itrackmine.com. All other devices please go to: http://m.itrackmine.com. Once you are connected, you will be prompted to enter your login and password.
Use your normal iTrackmine login and password. iTrackmine will remember your password when you next login from your device. To disable this feature, go to iTrackmine.com with your PC, click the
"GO MOBILE" tab, and select "Disable Mobile Login".
Q: How do I add an item to my collection from my mobile device?
A: Select "Search for Item" and follow the menus until you can input the item. Once you have found and selected the item, the top option in the menu is for "Add to Collection".
Android users can also click the "Scan Items" option to use the built-in camera as a barcode scanner to enter items. The first time you use this, you will have to install the free Zebra Crossing software on your device. Once you select "Scan Items" you will be sent to the Zebra Crossing mobile website where you can click a link to install the software. Once installed, the next time you select "Scan Items", your device will ask which application to use to handle the request. Please make sure to select "Barcode Scanner" (at that time, you may also specify to use this as the default application).
Q: Can I use my mobile device as a barcode scanner to scan items directly into my collection?
A: Yes! Android users can click the "Scan Items" option from the mobile interface to use the built-in camera as a barcode scanner to enter items.
Unfortunately, this does not work on iPhone.
Note: To reset the default application your phone uses to scan items, follow these steps:
click Settings->Applications->Manage Applications-> click the "All" tab->Browser->Clear Data (these steps may vary from device to device).
Use this if your mobile browser opens the Zebra Crossing website instead of running the zxing application when you click "Scan Item".
Q: Why do I want to enter the price of an item after I've looked it up on my mobile device?
A: This is probably the easiest -- and most accurate -- place for you to enter the price of an item you add to your collection (you won't have to try to remember, or dig out receipts). Even if you do not add it to your collection, the price is helpful when looking at the Mobile Report (see "Mobile Report" in this section below).
Q: How do I know if I am supposed to buy something for someone?
A: When you find any item, the system will tell you if that item is on any of your friends Wish List. It will also tell you if you have it on your Gift List for anyone.
Q: How do I view my Wish List on my mobile device?
A: Select "My Wish Lists" from the main menu. Choose the Wish List that you wish to view.
Q: How do I view my friend's Wish Lists on my mobile device?
A: Choose "View Friend's Wish List" from the main menu and select the Wish List you wish to view.
Q: How do I know if I already own an item from my mobile device?
A: Select the "Search For Item" option from the menu. Once the item information page appears, it will say if that item is in your collection or not. Sometimes you may have the item in another format. To check this, click the link "[5] Check my collection for alternate formats". This will tell you things like: if you looked up the hardback but own the paperback already, or if you looked up the Blu-Ray but already have the DVD at home.
Q: How do I say I bought an item for a friend who had it on their Wish List from my mobile device?
A: Select "View Friend's Wish List". Choose the Wish List you are shopping from. Select the item, and then "Reserve for Friend". Alternatively if you are on the item information page, select "View friends who want" if it appears to take a shortcut to your friends Wish List.
Q: How can I compare prices of items I entered into my mobile device from different stores?
A: From the main menu there's a link to "What I've Looked at Today". That page shows the store, item and price you entered (if you entered one). Great for shopping at the Mall!
Q: What is the mobile Shopping List?
A: You can share your Shopping List with any of your friends. When you are on the iTrackmine.com website, go to "GO MOBILE" then "Shopping List". You can specify which of your friends can access your Shopping List. Friends who can access it are able to view it and add or remove items from it via their mobile device. This is handy if you and your significant other make double grocery (or other) purchases. Or throw parties where many people bring items. This is different from a Gift List because this can be shared, and contain lists of anything.
Q: What is the Note to Self?
A: When you are on the iTrackmine.com website, go to "GO MOBILE" then "Note to Self". This is a scratch pad you can use to write notes to yourself from home for access when you're out and about.
Q: What is the Mobile Report?
A: When you are on the iTrackmine.com website, go to "GO MOBILE" then "Mobile Report". This shows you all the things you looked at from your mobile device. It includes the item, store you were in, price you saw and date. Use this to compare stores, and reference if you need to go back to buy something you looked at earlier.
